Holder of a vast repository of over 10,000 art objects, the University of Virginia Art Museum is an amazing resource for exploring and understanding art from a wide range of times and places. Some of the highlighted collections within the museum holdings are American and European works from the 1400s through the 1800s, ancient Mediterranean art and 20th century American paintings and photographs. Every year the museum also hosts around a dozen temporary exhibitions that usually focus on other world cultures like Native Americans and African groups. The museum can be found within the 1935 Thomas H. Bayly Memorial Building, situated on the eastern side of campus.
